Dr Stephen Kennett, Director Environment & Community Development wrote, on the 8th May 2000, to the consultants acting on behalf of the Developers, Cavalry Center Ltd. & the Fire Services National Museum Trust. He informed them that he was authorised by the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and Regions, John Prescott, to say that the Inspector's recommendations, following the Public Inquiry in May 1999, had been accepted and that planning permission and listed building consent had been granted.

There are a number of conditions to this consent, most of which were known to the applicants at the time of the Public Inquiry.

Norman Dickerson, Chairman of the Trust, expressed his delight on hearing the news, further information will be posted on the web site in due course. He said:

'It is now nearly 22 years since the Trust was set up and this is a huge milestone in the setting up of the Fireworld Museum'
