OBITUARY
ROGER PENNINGTON

Readers will be saddened to learn of the death of Roger Pennington, whose photographic work was well known to all those concerned with the history of the fire service.
Roger had a camera in his hand from the age of 14 and soon proved adept at using it to some effect, which led to a career in television as a camera man, first with Independent Television and then Redifusion. He later moved into making films for television as an assistant director working at Pinewood, Elstree and Borehamwood. A decline in the film industry led Roger to return to freelance photography, travelling widely and enjoying many commissions, one of which was to create a new postcard set for the then LFB - this experience awakened Roger's interest in the fire service and resulted in a steady flow of postcards which swiftly became prized by collectors. Membership of the Fire Service Preservation Group led to Roger rescuing and restoring an ex-Royal Navy Land Rover  registration number TACR 1, of which he was inordinately proud. Indeed it was only two weeks ago that Norman Simmons and I visited Roger and Joan to discuss the loan of the appli ance to the museum. Roger was an interesting man and a very professional photographer. He will be genuinely missed by his many friends.

Maurice Cole.
